Fraud

Fraud refers to wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain. It involves the deliberate manipulation of information or circumstances to mislead others, leading them to make decisions based on false representations. Fraud can take various forms, including but not limited to false advertising, identity theft, embezzlement, insurance fraud, and securities fraud. The act of fraud typically entails three essential elements: a false statement or misrepresentation, reliance on that statement by the victim, and resulting harm or loss suffered by the victim. It is illegal in many jurisdictions and is often pursued through both civil and criminal legal avenues. Fraud undermines trust in economic systems and can have serious consequences for individuals, businesses, and society as a whole.
